How to Complete Your Anmeldung: Registering Your Address in Germany

What is Anmeldung?

Anmeldung is the mandatory registration of your address with the local authorities in Germany. Every resident, whether German or foreign, must complete this process within 14 days of moving into a new home.

Why is it Important?

  • Required for opening a bank account, getting health insurance, signing up for utilities, and more
  • You receive your official registration certificate (Meldebescheinigung)
  • You get your tax ID (Steuer-ID) by post

  4. Attend your appointment and submit your documents.
  5. Receive your Meldebescheinigung (registration certificate) on the spot.
